ECT Sensor and Thermostat S40-V40 2001

I have a 2001 v40 and was told I need my ECT Sensor and Thermostat replaced. Is this something that I can do easily? The dealor "reloaded" my ECM and MAP sensor to the tune of $293 because the check engine light came on. He then said that it was still on and I needed the ECT and Thermostat replaced. I blew a gasket getting charged that much to download a computer softwear product!
