How do I reset /read 'check engine' light in '97 850 turbo?

We loaned the '97 850 to a friend and she's getting a check engine light. It's NOT the service light. She says it seems to run fine; she's NOT mechanically inclined, but should notice if it's drastically off.

Is there a way I can reset it or check it for codes? The only info I can find is for the earlier 850 models. I'm going to run down to take a look at it tomorrow, but hate to just look and agree that the light is on.

Thanks for any help
