One out of four tire worn out. S60 2002

You have two problems. If the front pads wear at different rates, the piston is hanging up and not releasing or the break pressure is not even between the wheels. Get to a doctor and have him check it out, it could be a safety issue. And get new pads for both sides while you are at it.
The one tire wearing could be because you are using only the left front for stopping OR it needs to be aligned. If you have never had your wheels aligned, it is money well spent.
