1994 850 Sedan /Good?? 850

Was 1994 a good year for the 850?
I have a chance to pick one up for a good price,a sedan basic model with 92,000 miles on it . Original owner,A/C not working.
(person claims it needs a compressor,I think it might need evaparator,I do not know,Volvo mechanic will look at it before I buy).I heard there were Tranny problems with the 1993 & 1994 models ??
