Radio/CD changer 850 1995

My 6-disk changer (Alpine CHM-S600) recently quit working on my '95 Turbo Wagon. The stock radio (SC-811) now doesn't switch to play a cd when I push the CD button.

The CD button seems to have limited function because when the radio or cassette is "paused" by pushing the main volume switch, the CD button effectively returns it back to un-paused radio/cassette (i.e. playing).

The disk changer in back seems to have power because when I remove the 6-disk cartridge, then disconnect and reconnect the lead cable (about 1' from the disk changer), and then re-insert the 6-disk cartridge, I can hear the disk changer loading one of the cd's when I turn on the ignition switch with the key.

Does anyone have any ideas? Also, is there a relatively simple method to determine if the problem is with the radio unit or the CD-changer unit?

Thanks.
