Digital clock,trip odometer lose power S40 2002

Last week, I drove my 2002 S40 about 10 miles and parked it for 20 minutes. When I got back in, the digital clock and the trip odometer had lost power. The clock was blinking 12:00 and the odometer read "0." I had not touched either on exiting the car. I reset them and both are now working fine. Has this happend to anyone else? Any idea of the cause? Something dire about to happen?

Last week, in single digit weather, the Check Engine light went on, apparently a problem with the computerized thermostat. $245 later, the dealer had fixed that. Any connection?

Thanks.
