Replacing driver's side axle. What are the 'gotcha's'? 850 1995

Our 103,000 mile 855t ripped the outer boot on the driver's side and spewed the grease all over the control arm and inside the wheel. I noticed it on a 500 mile trip so it's been running with minimal lube for a little while now.

We're facing a couple of 12 hour days behind the wheel to go to a wedding and I want to replace the axle first of course. I have the ability, most tools, the Haynes manual and of course the internet.

Are there any real problem areas that Haynes just glosses over? I can rent a hub puller to separate the hub from the splined end but at that point will the axle just pull out of the trans?

Thanks,
Erwin in Memphis
