or is it continuous variable valve timing...?
Yes that's what it is.

The 6-cyl S80 is somewhat more of a challenge than the 5 cyl engines. Less space and the valve gear problem (special tool advised). I do all the work I can on mine but the dealer will do my timing belt when the time comes.
