A V70 over a V40 or vice-versa? Opinion, please V70-XC70

Have been trying to talk my sister into buying a 98-99 V70, FWD turbo. She thinks the car is too big for her needs and is inclined toward the turboed V40. I checked Edmounds and pulled up an article whose author had absolutely nothing good to say about part failures on a V40. Does the V40, say a 2000-2001 model, have significantly more problems than a 98 or 99 V70? Is there a convincing case I can make to her for getting a V70 besides having more steel and safer? Dick
