POWER WINDOW SWITCH 850 1994

Geoff--the window switches will all eventually begin to fail, beginning with the most used, and it is best to learn how to repair them, rather than raid your local wrecking yard or worse, buy new from Volvo. They are a simple rocker switch with a ball bearing at the bottom that the flat pin rides across. What happens is that the two ends of the flat pin and the contacts in the housing corrode from arcing electricity when they make contact. This will cause a window from the center control panel to go down but not up, but up if you use the switch for that door. And, it keeps getting worse, until neither the center console or door switch will raise or lower the window. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to take the switch apart and to lightly sand or scratch the oxide off the ends of the contacts with your jack knife and put the switch back together. If one switch is starting to fail, buy a good bottle of wine, take all of them out, sit down at the kitchen table, and clean the contacts. One or two hour job at the most, depending on how good the wine. Dick
