How Long Should a CV Boot Last? 850 1993

Lately, I've been inspecting the suspension, tracking down a front end knocking noise. I was disappointed to discover my right outter CV boot is developing a small leak.

How long should a CV boot last? I have about 14,000 miles on this one.

Also, are there any tricks the "patching up" a small crack in the boot? Any glue, compound or tape that might work?
