How Long Should a CV Boot Last? 850 1993

Hard to say. The outer boots certainly have a tougher life than the inners and I would think you cars weather conditions would play into this as well. Here in southern CA original equipment boots generally last over 100K miles. In Buffalo it may be another story. Rebuilt replacement axles probably won't last as long but a 14K mile leak is way too soon in my opinion. When I first looked under my 850 each outer boot had two suspicious looking nicks cut into each outer boot allowing a slow grease leak. I suspect the previous owners mechanic was trying to creat some future additional business ??? Previous posts have stated that a thorough cleaning and a few wraps of electrical tap will work as temporary fix.
