Aftermarket AC filter? 850 1993

I read on another forum a reference to 850s lacking an air filter for the A/C system and that it is possible to get one installed by a mechanic, as a way to prevent AC motor failure. Does anyone know about this and whether an aftermarket filter exists one could install at home?
