v70 struts or ball joint V70-XC70 2001

After I had a new set of tires put on my 01 V70 I had it 4-wheel aligned.
The shop told me the RH inner ball joint( the one that screws into the rack and pinion unit) was bad, $110.00 from the dealer. I asked how the LH inner condition was, the tech said it was just fine and did not need replacement, as most wear is attributed to road conditions,
most road damage, ie potholes, debris etc is on the RH side of the road.
As to the struts they are fine.
