SRS light - clock related? V70-XC70 1999

hi,

recently a friend of mine was involved in an accident whilst driving his 1998 V70. the car was repaired, but there remains a persistant problem with the SRS light. it has been back to the dealer on several occasions, each time accruing a rather large bill. each time, within a few weeks, the light returns.

finally, it seems to have gone for good. they claim that the cause of the problem was

I take it there is a separate airbag timer or something such as this?

are they just yanking his chain?
