SRS light - clock related? V70-XC70 1999

having worked in car service for some years i don't remember 'clock springs' failing because of 'accidents' relating to airbag systems. i'd be interested to know what all was replaced concerning the accident...the srs module/computer tends to be the culprit...not that the spring can't go bad but when they do its usually all or nothing.
