Very stiff steering, advice on flushing P/S tank? S70 1998

Hello NDG,

Don't know if this will help, but I had a similar experience with my 960. The Volvo dealership installed a loop kit on my 960 PS system for a shuddering problem, and refilled with a different type of fluid.

After driving the car for just a very short period I noticed the PS was not as 'easy' to turn. It felt sluggish and heavy. I finally ask them about this and they said return the car, and they changed the fluid - according to the work order.

I think they said it was changed to the 'green' fluid. After that it was back to normal, light and lively steering - just right. I do not think it was my imagination either, the difference was from being a joy to drive to a chore. So, I think it is possible that certain fluids may affect the steering pressures - but then again I am not an engineer.
