Throttle Control Module S80

Tommy, beginning with '99 model year, volvos came with an electronic throttle system (ETS).

What this means, is that there is no cable to operate the throttle plate, the throttle is controlled electronically by a computer module.

The problem with this setup, is that the module is part of the throttle body itself and has a high failure rate in '99-'00 year models. The unit is expensive, about $700 part at the dealer, requires software download and add labor to it and you're looking at a $1100-$1200 repair bill.

Cleaning it helps in some cases, but its temporary as the ETS module eventually fails and leaves you stranded. Scary thing is when it fails on the highway when you're going 75 mph.
