850 lock cylinder left/right switch

Hi.

My '96 850 has a badly worn lock on the drivers side. Has anyone tried switching left and right side cylinders? Is it necessary to dismantle the cylinder to change left to right and vice versa?

The passenger side cylinder pops out nicely as per manual, the other one is a bit more difficult and also seems to be quite loose in the handle. Is there a reason for taking the door interior trim off when replacing a lock cylinder? The Haynes book says so, but I could R&R the cylinder just fine with the trim in place.

I should get remote keyless entry...
