Struggling to engage first gear...please help..... 850 1995

Hi,

I have a T5 stick shift 850 wagon that 1 out of every 5 times refuses to go into first gear - what could the problem be ? The clutch has less than a 1000 miles on it, every gear engages perfectly including reverse. It feels as if the gear lever is up against a brick wall - switching the engine off does'nt allow it to engage, which tells me that the clutch is'nt grabbing.

Please help me...
