Handbrake adjustment 850 1996

Hi Peter,

Your brakes need to be bled, as there is air in the lines, and that is why you have the "soft" pedal. You should find brake bleeding instructions, on Bay 13, if no in the repair maintenance section, do a search on the FWD forum.

The hand brake is not related the this. Adjust this by, opening your console lid, and poping a small panel out of the bottom. You will see the adjuster once you've gotten the "trap door" off from inside the console.

You might need new rear parking brake shoes, if the adjustment does not alleviate the issue.

Also, you should pick up a Haynes manual for your 850, as you will find lots of good info to help you repair and maintain your brick.
