early downshift when coming to a stop, starts in wrong gear or clunks in from 'neutral' 850

I have a '95 and it does the exact same thing. Whenever I feel it dowshift hard when coming to a stop I know it will be starting up in "winter mode". Very slow at first for a few seconds then clunks into first and shifts great from then on. May happen a few times before clearing up and resuming normal operation. Definitely replace the fluid. It does make it work better but not go away. This seems to be a progressive thing. It will get worse with time. I've installed a auxillary tranny cooler from Hayden in front of the ac unit that seems to help a little. Wish I had done it sooner though. I've had mine like this now for over two years. Don't think it's PNP related.
