early downshift when coming to a stop, starts in wrong gear or clunks in from 'neutral' 850 1995

I bought mine used also w/ about 85k miles. With my previous Volvo experiences I incorrectly assumed that a 85K Volvo wouldn't have any problems. So I didn't really test drive it all that much. Should have also taken it on the freeway for a few miles to really warm up the tranny. That's when my problem first started to show up. Also broke a car buying rule never to buy a used car from anyone w/ teenage son drivers. I'm thinking this tranny spent too much time being abused in the "sport" mode. Live and learn.....maybe. I'm shopping for a good used '97 non turbo transmission.
