Oil separator R&R, questions, questions. 850

NA 850, 1996.

My PCV system seems to be all gooey. I have removed the flame trap (totally clogged) and blew some gunk out of the hoses (natural aspiration all the way).

It got a lot better, but I feel that the hoses are rotten and possibly the oil separator is clogged.

1) Has anyone replaced the PCV hoses without removing the intake manifold?
2) Removing the intake manifold sounds scary. Is it? What do I replace apart from the manifold gasket?
3) Can the oil separator be cleaned?
4) Does the oil separator have a valve? Volvo says to blow out the hoses with air, if there is a on-way valve in there I would have thougt that pressurised air would make sure that it would not function properly.

C'mon, somebody has to have done this.

Snorri H.
