Failed Emissions -- Why? -- S70 1998

This is so common that Volvo has produced a pamphlet to explain the whole matter and how to fix it. Go back to your dealer and ask them for it. Essentially, your ECU needs to go thru a series of idle runs, off idle runs, and system checks before it says it is "ready". You can do some specific drive cycles to help it along. Interestingly, this seems to be a complaint that I read about for Volvos and not yet for Subarus, Hondas, Toyotas, etc.
