'98 or '99 XC V70-XC70

okay, now that I've kicked myself several times for selling my '93 245 Classic Wagon can someone tell me what is better: a '98 or '99 Cross Country. Surely there is something good to say about these cars. I see enough of them on the road. My mechanic says stay away from the '98- it's full of electrical problems as well as myriad other problems. He said he would not pay more than $2,000 for one. He said if I'm going to get one then I should look to a '99 or '00. According to him they are even better than the '01 for whatever that is worth.
On the other hand I have heard many say that the '98 is better since it is not so overly computer generated so to speak.
