Haha well I wasn't planning to go with my current car, just wondering why they in particular are supposedly so bad. I used to go there all the time with my 240 and they did a great job, was always the same set of guys working on the car and they were always helpful and knowledgeable.
See, my worst experience was at a Chevron service station... made the mistake of going in for their $19.99 oil change special.
After getting their special, the next time I went to have the oil changed (at my usual place) they said the oil plug had been way over-tightened and stripped. I called the Chevron station to complain and they admitted they had already fired the guy who did my car because we ruined 5 other cars as well. So they said they would tow it over there and fix it (my garage had removed the drain plug and oil was out, couldn't get it back in). Which they did, but later I took a look and all they did was weld a nut on the outside of the pan and put a new plug into it.
I went back when I figured that out and insisted they replace my oil pan (the hole was too large to bore out and put in a bigger plug and have it hold). I had to stomp my feet and speak to the owner - the service manager insisted his fix was just fine and I said no, I don't believe the weld will hold up and besides if I ever sell the car I have to explain that to someone... finally they caved and replaced the pan for free, but it was NOT fun!
Oh and one time my sister got her oil changed at a dealer, and they FORGOT to put OIL back in the car!!! Luckily she noticed driving off the lot that the engine sounded 'funny' and stopped to look. Bone dry! This was a Saturn. It is still running but maybe if she'd had the radio on loud, or been less observant it would not be. Yikes!!
