turbo pick up tube V70-XC70 2001

One month ago I had the turbo drain tube gasket and seal replaced due to what I was told was an air leak which caused the emmission light to come on. Last week the emmision light came on and two miles later the no oil pressure light came on, had it towed to dealer and told turbo destroyed due to lack of oil. Told the oil pick up tube sucked up the filter, got clogged and couldn't get any oil to turbo. My question is are the two related. Turbo was worked on a month ago, how was this missed? Any help so that I could understand this would be appreciated.
