Why do I go to the dealer???? S80

Can someone please clarify? Took my 2000 s-80 in to the dealer for an alignment(I knew I wasn't coming away with only a $79 alignment bill). "Needs a ball joint." I proceeded to ask if it was a recall item and they said NO. I KNEW it was a recall item and believe the original owner made the fix(I'm the second owner). The mechanic said they didn't replace the ball joints but only the bottom bolt and washer to the ball joint and they indicated that that was already done on my car from his visual inspection. I've heard that the ball joints were replaced with this recall and in many/most cases were replaced with defective ball joints.

Questions??? Did they replace ball joints or only the washers and bolts? Were they replaced with defective parts??

Also, I bought the $4 dollar piece of copper to fix the am reception problem. Anybody know if theres a trick to getting off the panel near the back window?

Thanks for all help.
