OBD I software recommendations/scan tool 850

I will very soon be inheriting a 1993 850. I have a very good selection of tools and such. I customarily work on old diesels though so I never have had a need for a scan tool. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive scan tool or maybe Volvo OBD I software that could interface with a palm pilot maybe? Where do I start??
