Overheats from A/C 850 1996

My '96 850 GLT just started having a problem with the A/C. When I'm in prolonged stop and go traffic in temps over 75 degrees, the temp gauge and ambient temp gauge max out with the A/C on. Also, the A/C starts blowing significantly less cold and the car has intermittent periods of low idling. When I turn the A/C off, the temp gauges go back to normal and the idling issue stops. When I'm crusing on the highway, this doesn't seem to be a problem. I recently had both the evaporator and compressor replaced. Any thoughts?
