Creaking sound from front end. S80 2001

I had my annual inspection as per state law. The local shop told me that I needed a ball joint as obvious wear was occurring on the inside of my front tire.(New tire is needed).
Since the ball joint has been replaced, there is a creaking sound at low speeds from the front end if I turn the steering wheel. Before I return to the shop, can someone inform me what is happening? I hope is an incorrect installation and not another failure of a suspension component.
