Automatic shifting 1998 s70 T-5 VS 2004 BMW 330i S70 1998

I recently bought a 1998 Volvo S70 T-5 with 66K with an auto-trans. I just got rid of a 2004 BMW 330i with an outo transmission. If I would floor the BMW it would shift very smooth at the 6700 RPMs though every gear, yet only at 4500 RPMs on the Volvo it seems to be clunky and sluggish -is this normal, because -although this car is older with miles - it doesnt even come close to the BMW.
