Service light 850 1996

Yes, it is meant to turn itself off within a few minutes of starting the car. It is supposed to remind you that an oil change is due. I am not sure if it also tracks other service intervals.

It's mostly nothing but an annoyance. Resetting the light requires an expensive tool or paying the dealer to do it. I removed the light bulb for mine. I had to take the instrument cluster out anyway to replace some burned out bulbs, so it was no additional effort.
