Leather front seat coverings--interchangeable? 850 1996

The leather bottom seat cover on my friend's 96 is shot. All the ones I've looked at in junkyards don't look too hot--cracked and dirty. However, the passenger side leather is usually in much better shape. Can you strip the leather from the passenger side seat bottom and use it on the driver's side? I learned a long time ago not to try and second guess Volvo on parts interchangeability. Complicating this somewhat in my mind is an apparent difference between power and mechanical seat coverings. I can't push the seat leather in far enough from the power control housing on the side of the seat to know if Volvo cut it or did something else from mechanical seats.

And, as an added thought, would the upright leather coverings be interchangeable regardless of the airbags inside and where the seam has to split? Dick
