Engine noice while idling S70 1998

I just took my S70 98' to an independent Volvo dealer and asked about a "clicking" or "clanking" noise that increases or decreases based on how high or low the engine is idling. It comes and goes. But when it comes, my car sounds like my father's old 1970's Mercedes diesel.

The dealer said there was not enough oil getting to the piston (or something like that). He said he put in some detergent somewhere and told me I should idle high in second gear for a couple of minutes.

This has not cleared up the problem.

Anybody out there have advice?

Best,
