fuel smell..mini explosion?? 850

Whoa. You drove to the dealer without any drivability problems (except gas fumes)? And he said your plugs were blown up??????? Nothing burned in your engine compartment or trunk? Better get your car back from the dealer real soon, before he finds something else "wrong".
If there was fuel around the top of the fuel pump, that is not a good thing. Did you try to unscrew/retighten the plastic thing that holds the pump in place? Did you tell the dealer about the leak?

The sound of an M80 and your car being in one piece are two separate things. If it would have been your car, the insurance company would have totaled it after the fire department foamed down the melting mess.
