ABS Buzzing/Groaning fixed - a postscript S70 1998

Well, I finally broke down and took the car into my local inde shop to pull ABS codes. There were 6 messages stored, and they said the unit was bad because "an ECU sending a whole bunch of codes usually indicates a bad computer" (which I understand may or may not be true). I told them it had just been rebuilt by a man in California with a fine reputation (and that it was protected with a warranty). "Apparently, it just wasn't fixed right," they said. All they did other than that was put a new wire harness (?) on the left front sensor (a $3 part) and sent me on my merry way.

I haven't had a single problem since I left the shop that day.

So I looked up the 6 error codes. Imagine that, no computer failure message...just 5 codes relating specifically to the left front sensor...where they put the harness on. You'd think that would have been a clue. (BTW, the 6th happened to be sent from the right front sensor).

I shared this with Victor, who has patiently put up with my questions for quite a while. He said he had seen a similar case recently. In his case, he noticed damaged wiring on the right front wheel sensor from a mechanic who had replaced the brakes. My front brakes were done about 6 months ago, so maybe there's something there. So if you're reading this, and you've had your computer rebuilt and you continue to have problems, the wiring on the wheel sensors could very well be an issue.

BTW - it's been said here many times before, so I'll just be the latest...Victor was an invaluable asset to have while I was working this problem out. If you have an ABS light on, he's your guy.
