You might be having the "don't drive enough" problem. If you take a lot of short trips, less than 15 minutes at low rpm, it will not be enough to draw all of the gas from the canister. Take a Sunday drive for an hour or two outside of the city limits. A new cannister is very expensive and may not fix your problem. They are supposed to last for the life of the car. The one on my 1975 is original and there are no problems with it.
