Help: 850 CV-Joint Half shaft re-assembly 850 1997

I tried the old axle. It does go in and out easily. The new one will not get in.

The new axle (from NAPA, number on box is #6012) is different from the old one. From the mid bearing on the axle to the transmission, the axle diameter is smaller than the original one. The spindle tread that goes in the transmission is longer than the original one. I think I got the wrong part.

I do not know who is the manufacturer of the NAPA axle but I suspect it is CCTaxle.com. If I search "Advance Auto Parts" store for the correct axle, I get the number #6012 from CCT (same number that NAPA gaves me). If I go to the CCT web site, they tell me that the correct axle for my car is #6016. The #6012 according to CCT is for the non-turbo 850 with manual transmission.

Tomorrow, I will call CCT. Either their online catalog is wrong or else NAPA.

Also, FCP Groton and IPD have a different axle part number for the turbo 850 vs the non-turbo. At NAPA, they only have one part number. Something is wrong!

Thank you.
1997 850GLT (LP-Turbo)
