Aw55-50 Automatic Transmission Fault in S80,2001(no reverse!) S80 2001

Hi;

I'm new to this forum and need some help on the following problem urgently.
I'm an autmotive engineer working in maintenance of passenger cars.

The problem:
I've received an Volvo S80 (T5) Model Year 2001, Kilometerage 47000 km. with a troblu in its transmission (Type Aw55-50 Automatic Transmission).
In brief the car couldn't move backward and the Low shift makes the car fore-afting! moves and stopps sequentially as if the wheel drives getting locked and back released.
with a PC-aided troubleshooter I found a DTC stored in the TCM that of VSS, and 2nd, 3rd gear shifts. I've unistalled the valve body and installed another good one. The trouble still exists no change. from the service manual for such vehicles I predicted that the B3 is always locked because of it's locked for Reverse and Low (1st) shifts only or one of the two main planetary gear set locked togeather permanently. because I've no complete service manual for this transmission I preferred not to attempt to repair it and replaced the customer's transmission with another new one!

My Question:

- Is it usual for a transmission to breakdown after 47000 km, if ok please tell me why?
- Is there a chance to purchase a service manual for Raisin Automatic Transmissions AW types with which Volvo is equiepped?
I expect your Appreciated Reply soon
