A/C recharge fitting 850 1997

I can't get the slide collar coupling that should fit on the recharge port to attach. I have a '89 240 also,which I converted to r134a and it works fine on that port,so I assume the coupler is OK.Is there some adapter required to connect for this '97 850 or some other special fitting? Thanks.
