I have seen my customers do what you have done and it does not look too bad, it sure looks a damn sight nicer than it did with all of the crap peeling off. The other option that I have seen is to pull them off and paint them flat black again. Those mouldings will peel right up and out of there. Last time I checked those darn things were in the area of $175.00 or so apiece.
