In Dash Cupholer V70-XC70 2001

I never use the in-dash cupholder which is to the right of the steering wheel. My son decided to put his drink in it the other day and the damn thing broke - it won't go back in because the cheap plastic catch on the underside broke off. All my son did was depress the cupholder so it would pop out and the thing broke. I now have a cupholder sticking out permanently which impedes my access to the radio on/off button and which I am sure, knowing Volvo, will cost me dearly to have replaced. Has anyone else had this problem?

The repairs are driving me nuts at this stage - the gas tank filler pipe, the lights always going out, the cupholders, the locks which seem to go up and down on their own as if they are possessed...I guess the one saving grace to this car is that it saved me from serious injury in an accident and is built like a tank.
