CHECK ENGINE reset? 850 1995

Funny thing happened after my visit to the mechanic yesterday. He replaced the temperature sensor located within the thermostat housing and the thermostat.
Before this I never saw the "CHECK ENGINE" light come on to check for any codes but now after the fix was done the "CHECK ENGINE" light came on. Is this just because I need to clear out the old code(s)?
If so, can someone please give me the procedure again for clearing any old codes? Hopefully fixing one problem didn't create a new one.
