A/C problems in 96 850 wagon 850 1996

A/C problems with my 96 850 wagon, recharged system 2 years ago, held charge thru summer, recharged last year twice and didn't last a week. Shop couldn't find leak but know its there, suspected evaporator with $$ to repair. Any options? If I spend the $$ to fix, how long can I expect repair to last or will it just be a few years before I need to replace evap. again?
