Front wheel area generates Whoow-whoow like sound 850

My ’96 GLS 850 has developed sound that gets louder as the driving speed increases. The best way I can describe the sound is: Whoow-Whoow-… If I turn even slightly right it is getting louder. If I keep the steering wheel straight it is almost gone. Slight turn to the left returns the sound but not as loud as when turning to the right.
I suspect the wheel bearing is a culprit. However, many board messages suggest other sources. The rim does not get hot after driving, just reasonably warm as all other three wheels.
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks for the help and cooperation.
