What A/C refrigerant to use? All the same? 850

If you have oil spraying out there's too much oil in the system. The Volvo uses PAG 100 oil. Ester only comes as a 100 viscosity so you should be Ok. The noise probably comes from excessive oil choking the compressor. It would be great to bleed off some freon until you don't get the oil spraying out on you, but even then you will probably have too much in the system. PAG oil will hold moisture in the oil molecule for a long time, whereas Ester oil will release it back to the system quickly. If you run the compressor long enough with excessive oil in the system you'll hydro-lock it and break it.
