Multiple misfires 850 1996

Bosch platinums are not my favorite but they are a damn sight better than a set of Champions or some Autolites indeed. Is there a Volvo dealer local? The plugs will not set you back a great deal, about $20.00 or so for non-turbo and closer to $40.00 for the turbos. If you cannot get the factory combination of Bosch and Bougicord ignition parts then I would just install the plugs, blow all of the water out, and order up the right stuff online with someone like FCP. These parts can be had at the dealer but you will pay full factory list for them and that is a bit on the steep side when compared to a no overhead affair like your online vendors have. The correct parts for your car will come with a loftier price but damn, look at 'em they did 100K+ effortlessly right up to the part where you washed them down a bit. They are good stuff and money well spent.

Is replacing the rotor difficult? That is a pretty subjective question there. It is a piece of cake for me, but I own my own Volvo repair shop so it had better come pretty easy to me. The biggest hassle is the three little allen screws that hold the rotor to the dist shaft. They are slightly more rigid than dried playdough. Be careful with them as you will round them out in a heartbeat. They give you new ones with the new rotor but that won't help you get the old ones out. In the event that you do strip one out, I do it from time to time myself so don't feel bad if it happens, just take a pair of pliers and destroy the old rotor to the point that all you have is the three screw heads left. At this point you can get pliers on them and unscrew them. Once broken free they will thread out by hand. Make sure that the new ones are tight but don't screw them up too and if you do don't worry about it you can destroy the rotor the next time you change it so long as the screws are tight.

Good Luck,
Mark
