ignition switch delay 850 1994

I have a 94 turbo wagon that has a strange starting problem. I turn the key and all the dashboard lights light up and---- no sound,strangely silent, then two or three seconds later the car starts. This is a new strange problem that I hope won't get worse or leave me stranded. No codes yet.
Any comments, suggestions, or places to start would be helpful! It used to start up at the turn of the key and now this odd behavior.
